About the group

A free initiative, what's that? Let us explain it in a humorous way. If ever in Germany three people come together they will found an association. And a proper association has to be registered. But we are a little bit proud not to press us in such an association. Even without registering our roots go back to the late 70ies of the last century. Thats also continuity without registering. Only for a little bit of support by the German authorities, which nowadays doesn't really mention, we don't have to bend. Besides that nobody of us wants to do the administrative duties to comply with legal requirements which are the consequencies of a registered association.

As our group has meanwhile made a mark in the surrounding of Backnang we felt maturely enough in the summer of 2002 to create this website. An english variant followed in the summer of 2005 greeting the whole world.

Not all of the seven founding members are today active, four of them remained. The other founders are absent friends due to personal or professional reasons. Other persons joined us in the course of time so that a hard core of ten to twelve people is available for colaboration.

First of all we do astronomy as our hobby in all its facetts. But observing deep sky objects is one of our favorites. This is due to the fact that dobsonian telescopes deliver the most aperture for a given amount of money. Nevertheless most of us have a smaller or bigger lens up one's sleeve.

One of our joint main activities is to guide interested people to the skies. For some of them its a nice evening but on the other hand some people has joined our group after such a skygazeing opportunity and stays at least in the extended halo of the group.

Last but not least please be patient if you don't find a particular article of our website in english language which is just realized in German. Translating to a foreign language is sometimes hard work and must be done in our sparetime. Nobody of us has english as his natural language. Therefore please apologize, if there are some curious translated expressions. If you recognize mistakes please don't hesitate to contact us. This helps to improve our website and also our knowledge of english language.
